Qualifications of Examiner

B Grade Examiner

Necessary Ranking : Sandan (3rd Dan) or Higher

General Standards

1. Kata

  • Must understand techniques and applications for all kata used for 8th Kyu through and including Nidan (2nd Dan).
  • Understands and can demonstrate all basic elements of technique.
  • Uses fair and objective judgement.

2. Basic Techniques (Kihon)

  • Understands and can demonstrate the underlying principles for all body movements and techniques requires for all Hachi Kyu (8th Kyu) through Shodan (1st Dan) examinations.
  • Uses fair and objective judgement.

3. Sparring Techniques (Kumite)

  • Understands and can demonstrate Kumite (sparring & self defence techniques)
  • Understands and can demonstrate the basic elements that include strategy, timing and correct application of technique.
  • Uses fair and objective judgement.

4. Rules

Must know thoroughly and be able to explain all Shin Budo Kai Ranking Rules.

5. Good Character and Judgement

Must be considered of the highest character and be known for fair, objective and impartial judgement.

In addition to the above criteria, the following are required:

  • Understands the principles of karate technique.
  • Has 10 or more years experience as a karate instructor.
  • Has the ability and can provide corrective instructions to Nidan (2nd Dan) examinee.

A Grade Examiner

Necessary Ranking : Godan (5th Dan) or Higher

General Standards

In addition to those standards for B grade criteria, the following are required:

  • Understands the principles of karate instruction.
  • Has the ability and can provide corrective instruction to the Sandan (3rd Dan) and higher examinee.
  • Has performed general research in karate and has experience in applying such research.
  • Has the ability to evaluate someone else’s research objectively and impartially.

Required Examiners

Shodan - Nidan

Regional Panel comprising at least 4 B-grade examiners

Sandan - Yondan

Regional Panel comprising at least 4 A-grade examiners.

Godan and Higher

National Panel comprising at least 4 members of Technical Committee.
